Hague’s ultimate guide to sustainable paper

Hague’s ultimate guide to sustainable paper

At Hague Print, we are committed to caring for the environment and work every day to keep the impact that our business has on the planet to a minimum. As part of this effort we ensure that we work with partners who use sustainable products so that we play our role in protecting the environment. In turn, this means that our clients are also taking steps to be more environmentally-friendly.

But what does it really mean for paper products to be sustainable?

Sustainable forest management

Sustainable paper is paper which has come from a sustainable source, which means a forestry company that doesn’t cut down more trees than it plants. It also means the forestry company does not work with forests that have high biodiversity values, which means that the company refrains from forests where there is a variety of life.

Traceability

To ensure sustainable paper truly is sustainable you need to know its origin. Working with a paper manufacturer that can trace the origin of the wood used to make the paper means you can say with certainty that it is environmentally sound. Being able to say that the purchased wood and pulp is covered by a third party, such as Chain of Custody, Controlled Wood or ISO 14001 means you always know exactly where the raw materials have come from.

Environmentally-friendly production

The paper cycle has not always been as kind to the environment as it is today. However, forestry and paper companies have been working to make the process more environmentally-friendly, from paper making to recycling. The process of making paper, like any modern industrial process, can have some effect on the environment. But by minimising emissions and maximising resource efficiency, these can be lessened to meet certain environmental targets.

Certification

To ensure companies are following certain actions, it’s necessary for them to be covered by third-party certified management systems. At Hague, our strategic print partners hold the FSC/PEFC Chain of Custody Certification which allows us to use the FSC/PEFC logo on your printed product, demonstrating that it has met the highest environmental standards.
